Vending machine insurance and compliance in Tasmania

Small state, serious sites — Bell Bay, health services and food production all want the documentation before the machine.

Vending machine insurance and compliance in Tasmania — $20 million public liability on free workplace vending machines
$0 Delivery
$0 Installation
$0 Maintenance
$0 Insurances
$0 Restocking

Tasmania's larger employers are concentrated in health, education, food and beverage production, aquaculture and heavy industry at Bell Bay. Supplier onboarding at those sites is as rigorous as anywhere on the mainland, and the state's dispersed geography adds a second question: will service actually happen. Our answer to both is documented — a full insurance file up front, and a northern and southern service cycle with capacity planned for the interval rather than an optimistic weekly promise. WorkSafe Tasmania is the regulator our safe work documentation and technician induction records are written to satisfy, and hosts range from salmon-farm processing sheds and cool-store distribution depots to UTAS campus buildings and the Spirit of Tasmania terminal at Devonport — sites with quite different induction expectations, from a five-minute sign-in to a full contractor safety module before boots hit the floor.

What we carry

Insurance position at a glance

Public liability

$20 million

Covers third-party personal injury and property damage arising from the machine and from our people while they are on your site.

Product liability

Included

Covers the goods sold from the machine. Everything stocked is commercially packaged, in-date and sourced through mainstream Australian distribution.

The machine itself

Our asset, our cover

The unit remains our property and is insured by us. You are not asked to schedule it on your policy or accept liability for it.

Workers compensation

Held by us

Our technicians are covered under our own workers compensation policy in the state they attend.

Certificate of currency

On request, before install

Issued as a PDF naming the insurer, policy number, limit and period. Accepted by government, health, defence and tier-one construction procurement.

Compliance notes for Tasmania

Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (Tas) and WorkSafe Tasmania

WorkSafe Tasmania administers the state's harmonised WHS framework. We attend as a supplier with our own safe work documentation, inducted technicians and workers compensation cover, and we complete whatever contractor induction a host runs, from a signed visitor register at a small distribution depot to a formal safety briefing at a processing plant.

Food, beverage and aquaculture sites

Placement is agreed with your quality lead and kept to amenities and crib areas, with sealed glass-front units and managed stock rotation to suit hygiene and pest-control audits.

Electrical safety and RCD protection

A number of Tasmanian sites operate out of older buildings, particularly around Hobart's waterfront precincts and Launceston's inner industrial streets, so our technicians check that the outlet a machine is plugged into is RCD-protected and will fit a portable RCD where a host's switchboard doesn't already provide one. Test-and-tag records to AS/NZS 3760 are supplied on request, which is common at Bell Bay and at food-manufacturing sites with their own electrical safety procedure.

Anchoring, exposure and access

Machines sited near loading docks or coastal buildings at Devonport, Burnie and Bell Bay are positioned clear of prevailing weather and secured with anti-tip bracketing, since exposed entries in Tasmania see more wind-driven rain and salt air than most mainland sites. Access for the northern or southern service run is agreed at placement — a rear corridor, a loading bay, or a defined delivery window around a processing site's wash-down schedule.

Food Act 2003 (Tas) and the Food Standards Code

All stock is prepacked, labelled and date-marked, rotated on each visit, with nothing prepared on your premises.

General information for procurement and facilities teams, not legal advice. Legislation is named so your WHS or compliance officer can verify it directly.

FAQ

Insurance, liability and cost questions

How often will a Tasmanian machine be serviced?+

On a scheduled northern or southern cycle, adjusted by telemetry. Capacity is sized to the interval so the machine doesn't empty between visits, and if sell-through outpaces the model we increase capacity at no cost.

Can you install at Bell Bay industrial sites?+

Yes — cashless-only machines, inducted technicians and full insurance documentation supplied before the first visit.

Does the product range suit the Tasmanian climate?+

It has to. Hot beverages and substantial food lines carry the range from roughly April to October, with cold drinks scaled back rather than dominating the planogram.

What does the public liability certificate actually protect us against?+

It responds to third-party injury or property damage caused by the machine or by our technicians while attending your site — for example a dropped delivery causing a floor mark, or an equipment fault. Because the machine remains our asset, that liability sits with us as owner and operator rather than with your business, and your own site insurance keeps running unchanged.

How do you handle test-and-tag for older Tasmanian buildings?+

Our technicians check the outlet before plugging in, carry a portable RCD for sites where the switchboard doesn't already have one, and can supply AS/NZS 3760 test-and-tag records on request — routine for Bell Bay and for processing sites running their own electrical safety procedure.

How much public liability cover do you carry?+

$20 million. The policy covers third-party personal injury and property damage arising from the machine and from our technicians while they are working on your premises. Product liability on everything stocked is carried alongside it.

Can we get a certificate of currency?+

Yes, on request and before the machine is installed. The certificate is a PDF naming the insurer, the policy number, the limit of indemnity and the period of cover — the standard document a procurement or WHS officer needs for a supplier file.

Do we need to add the machine to our own insurance?+

No. The machine is our asset and stays on our policy. You are not asked to schedule it, note our interest, or extend your own cover in any way. Most sites simply file our certificate of currency and move on.

Who is liable if someone is injured by the machine?+

Liability for the machine itself sits with us as owner and operator, backed by the $20 million policy. Ordinary occupier duties for your premises stay with you, exactly as they would for any other equipment or supplier on site — nothing about this arrangement shifts additional risk onto your business.

Is the machine really free, with nothing invoiced later?+

Yes. There is no rental, delivery, installation, restocking, service, insurance or removal charge, and no minimum spend or sales guarantee to meet. The model is funded by the margin on products staff buy. You are never sent an invoice.

Is there a contract or lock-in period?+

A one-page site placement agreement covering power, access and positioning. No minimum term, no lock-in, no exit fee. Either side can end it with reasonable notice and we collect the machine at our cost.

Experience you can check

Who installs your machine in Australia, and exactly how it runs

Written and maintained by Dan Barnes — owner-operator, Free Vending Machines Australia

I have been placing and servicing vending equipment in Australian workplaces for over two decades — offices, warehouses, gyms, hospitals, schools, remote camps and government sites. Everything on this page reflects how we actually run installs across every state and territory: the machines we physically stock, the lead times our crews hold to, and the service standard we carry at our own cost. Nothing here is licensed boilerplate.

  • Typical Australian lead time: 7–14 days from a qualified request to a working machine.
  • $20 million public liability plus product liability — certificate of currency supplied to your facilities or WHS team on request.
  • Australian-owned, Australian-serviced. Same operator answers the phone on0401 NO COST.
  • Nayax cashless readers and live telemetry on every machine — not a retro-fitted coin mech.

What to expect, step by step

  1. 1. Two-question request

You tell us the workplace type and rough head count. No paperwork, no credit check, no sales visit required to get an answer.

  2. 2. Site check within 24 hours

We confirm head count, foot traffic, power location and access (lifts, stairs, loading dock, after-hours security) and pick the right machine.

  3. 3. Delivery and install

Our crew delivers, levels and commissions the machine, tests the cashless reader end-to-end and takes the packaging away. Nothing is invoiced.

  4. 4. Telemetry goes live

Every vend, temperature reading and fault code streams back to us. Low stock is flagged 2–3 days before a row empties.

  5. 5. Ongoing service, still $0

Restocks, cleaning, repairs, parts, product-mix changes and $20m public liability are all carried by us. Ask us to remove it and we do — no exit fee.

The exact machines we install

These are our three workhorse combination machines — photographed as they leave our workshop, stocked with the Australian brands your team actually buys. We recommend one based on your head count and floor space, never on what happens to be in the truck.
