The short answer

By monthly search volume, the Gold Coast leads Australia for vending machine queries (~720/month), followed by Brisbane (~590), Perth (~320), Melbourne and Sydney (~260 each), Adelaide (~170) and Canberra (~70). Queensland dominates the national picture — the Gold Coast and Brisbane together generate more vending search demand than Sydney and Melbourne combined, driven by heat, seven-day tourism rosters and fast-growing industrial estates with no walkable food retail.

The ranking

These are estimated monthly Australian search volumes for each city's primary vending machine query, from the Semrush AU database. They're estimates, but the relative ordering is stable and it maps closely to where our own enquiry volume comes from.

RankCityEst. searches / monthWhat's driving it
1Gold Coast~720Subtropical heat, seven-day tourism rosters, fast-growing Yatala/Stapylton industrial estates, highest gym density in Australia
2Brisbane~590Large industrial base (Eagle Farm, Wacol, Richlands), infrastructure build cycle, project offices and site sheds needing short-term amenity
3Perth~320Isolation — resources, FIFO and industrial sites with no food retail within a 20-minute drive
4=Melbourne~26024/7 distribution centres in the west and south-east, plus dense CBD tenancies
4=Sydney~260High-rise lift-cycle time loss, huge Western Sydney logistics corridor
6Adelaide~170Defence and advanced manufacturing precincts with controlled site access

Why Queensland over-indexes

The Gold Coast and Brisbane produce roughly 1,310 vending searches a month between them — more than Sydney and Melbourne combined, despite a much smaller combined workforce. Three factors explain it.

  • Climate. In subtropical and tropical conditions, cold drink access stops being a perk and becomes a work health and safety consideration. Warm-drink complaints and dehydration on outdoor and warehouse sites drive active searching.
  • Roster shape. Tourism, hospitality and construction run seven days and outside retail hours. Staff are frequently on site when nothing nearby is trading.
  • Estate geography. South East Queensland's industrial growth has been horizontal — Yatala, Stapylton, Coomera, Wacol, Richlands. These estates have headcount but almost no walkable food retail.

The pain points behind the searches

Search volume is a symptom. What sits underneath it is a small, repeating set of workplace problems — and every one of them is solvable without the business spending anything.

Pain pointWhere it bites hardestThe fix
Staff leave site for drinks and snacksIndustrial estates, business parks, high-rise towersOn-site cashless machine at the crib room or breakout — a 30-second trip instead of a 20-minute one
Warm drinks / failing refrigerationQLD, NT, northern WATropical-spec units with reinforced compressors rated for sustained high ambient temperatures
Night and weekend shifts have no amenityLogistics, health, manufacturing, port operations24/7 access with telemetry-triggered restocking so night crews don't inherit empty shelves

No budget line for staff amenityEverywhere, especially not-for-profits and schools$0 placement — there is no budget line to create because there is no cost

How it affects productivity

The measurable argument for on-site vending is recovered time. A staff member who walks or drives off site for a drink is typically gone 15–30 minutes; the same purchase from an on-site machine takes under two minutes.

On a 60-person site where a third of staff make one off-site run a week, replacing that trip with an on-site machine recovers roughly 5–10 hours of on-site time per week. That's before you count the informal follow-on — the colleague who joins the walk, the phone call taken outside, the return that isn't immediate.

The secondary effects matter too. Shift workers and after-hours crews get the same amenity as the day team, which is a real equity issue on 24/7 sites. Hydration access on hot sites is a WHS control, not a benefit. And on-site amenity is one of the cheapest visible things an employer can offer during recruitment — particularly at $0.

  • Breaks stay on site — no drift, no queue, no drive
  • Equal amenity for night, weekend and after-hours crews
  • Hydration access as a documented WHS control on hot and physical sites
  • Visible staff amenity at zero cost to the employer

Which Australian city searches most for vending machines?+

The Gold Coast, at roughly 720 estimated searches a month for its primary vending query — ahead of Brisbane (~590), Perth (~320), Melbourne and Sydney (~260 each) and Adelaide (~170). Source: Semrush AU database.

Why does the Gold Coast search more than Sydney?+

Climate, roster shape and estate geography. Subtropical heat makes cold-drink access a WHS matter, tourism and hospitality run seven days outside retail hours, and the Yatala–Stapylton–Coomera industrial corridor has grown fast with almost no walkable food retail. Sydney has more workers but better ambient amenity.

Does search demand mean my city is better served?+

No — it usually means the opposite. High search volume indicates unmet demand: people looking for a solution they don't currently have. We install in all of the cities listed regardless of their search ranking.

How much staff time does on-site vending actually recover?+

An off-site run for a drink typically costs 15–30 minutes; the on-site equivalent is under two minutes. On a 60-person site where a third of staff make one off-site run weekly, that's roughly 5–10 recovered hours per week.

Do you install in regional cities as well as capitals?+

Yes. Newcastle, Wollongong, Geelong, the Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Cairns, Toowoomba, Ballarat, Bendigo, Bunbury, Launceston and most regional industrial hubs are serviced, with no regional surcharge — because there is no charge at all.
